Blog about Twitter
Twitter discussions are short and sweet, straight to the
point. Since there is a word limit, this forces a student to just speak their
mind quickly. Twitter is a more expressive platform, and there isn’t much formalities.
While on BlackBoard, it’s more of a formal platform. As a student, some feel
obligated to write more than necessary or well-structured. Students assume that
it must be a long paragraph. A student can easily feel a little more restricted
versus a Twitter discussion. An in-class
discussion can be extremely interactive or just silence, depending on the
environment and students. It’s a unique feeling to be face-to-face with other
students versus communicating with a student through a computer screen. The discussion
is filled with spontaneous thoughts and there is a natural flow to it, when it’s
face-to-face. It can be challenging to have complex conversation through a
computer screen. During the in-class discussion, students feed off each other’s
thoughts and opinions. This is crucial to creative or critical thinking.
